The Gruesome Animated Movie Ending That Stays With Audiences

Out of all the mature cartoon movies I have personally viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled conclusion of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker crafted a dark, melancholy , often savage world with several minor , forlorn hints of optimism.

Although The Unicorn Wars feels like it originated from an impulse to advance animation further, the director explained that it was rather an attempt to convey a widespread, multicultural theme concerning “the mutual source of each battle.”

That message is communicated through a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously based on a well-known line of lovable characters.

Being raised in a community centered on militarism and the military-industrial complex, numerous the bears are fixated on exterminating unicorns, due to a religious scripture that tells them they used to be masters of the forest, before the unicorns drove them out.

Others did not entirely bought into the propaganda, , choose to sample substances and mate in the woods.

Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings display genitals , clear urges.

For one especially vicious, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the war with unicorns becomes a route to power — and particularly to authority over his softer, kinder brother the character Tubby.

The character acts as a tormentor and an obvious antisocial figure , and when terror overcomes his unit and claims his comrades one by one, he seizes increasingly power personally, in increasingly bloody, destructive ways.

At the same time, the unicorns are suffering their own horror, as an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.

“At the beginning, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “However it evolves into a more intense and sorrowful film. And by the end, it becomes a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the most playful features from a legendary filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in letting cartoon characters swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.

Subsequently it turns into something more like a more grim film by that same creator, featuring progressively graphic violence , a palpable relation to genuine tragedy of battle.

Ultimately, it is an outright extreme drama carnage.

The horror which makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing begins a lot earlier than indicated.

The Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted gorehounds, for fans of graphic films who want to see a film they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative that pulls unflinching brutality.

Watch it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will dig deep within you and linger.
