The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
