Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following starting insulting taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading abusive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Previous History Between the Striker and the Manager
Both men had history before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
Everything seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Challenges
The forward made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
