HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Episode Two Early on HBO's Digital Service
Fans are eagerly awaiting for the chilling show It: Welcome to Derry, that's been earning acclaim and weaving in themes from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, HBO declared that episode two will arrive early, released fittingly for October 31st.
Early Release Details
Kicking off on Halloween night at 3 a.m. EST, the next part of It: Welcome to Derry will make its debut on HBO Max, ahead of its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sundays on the network and streaming service, building toward the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.
Series Overview
Set in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry draws from the original story while building upon the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The first It movie centered on young characters confronting unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that the prequel continues that tradition. Yet, the first installment of the HBO series shows it aimed to raise the stakes, delivering more frightening moments than the cinematic versions and setting a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Story World and Concepts
Taking place in the 1960s, the program features a different group of grown-ups and kids inhabiting a apparently peaceful community masking a sinister core. This place functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—one marked by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence resurfaces each 27-year cycle. Even though It: Welcome to Derry might sound like it leans too heavily to the movies at first, what distinguishes the HBO Max series is its two-sided viewpoint—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. Children remain highly exposed to It's terror, but the adults aren’t spared confronting their personal demons arising from local discrimination and covert otherworldly powers.
Episode 2 debuts on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
